Three-Dragon Ante is a fast-paced noncollectable card game based on the tavern games played by characters within the D&D game world. Three-Dragon Ante can be played as a standalone card game when there isn’t enough time for a full-fledged D&D adventure, or it can be played as part of a roleplaying campaign—where a character’s abilities can give him or her a unique winning edge. These are changes I would make to the Three Dragon Ante card game. High Priest Tired of always getting your card powers nerfed because the player to your right seems to always have a 1 strength flight? * The Priest may choose to either be the leader for the next round, OR for the remainder of the gambit, card powers trigger only if the strength of the card is GREATER than or equal to the strength of the preceding card. The latter effect is canceled should the High Priest be assassinated. Thief Who hasn't been annoyed by someone playing the Druid at the most inopportune time, or the Dragon Slayer killing off one of your dragons? Would you like to get revenge? Well, here's the solution for you! * The Thief has turned Assassin. As an addendum to the power of the card, the player may choose to either steal 7 gold from the stakes, OR assassinate any 1 mortal from any flight. Mortal Flight My group has found that there usually isn't much of a strategic reason to play three mortals in a flight with the exception of the novelty, so I came up with this fun house rule. * Upon completing a mortal flight (three mortals in your flight). You may discard any number of cards from your hand, and draw that number of new cards. Copper Color Flight For each color of dragon, there are 6 dragons each with varying strength. The copper dragons have a couple low strength cards including the 1. This means that the probability of making a color flight with these cards is less likely than any other color. My group's belief is that a copper color flight is something special, and therefore should get a benefit. * Should you make a copper color flight, you immediately benefit from the color flight (that is, collect gold from each player per the rules). Then place your hand aside, and discard the three copper dragons, and draw three new cards. Play these cards in any order you choose, the power of the card automatically activates when you play it. Platinum Color Flight The two dragon gods and the draco lich are what I call the platinum flight. Normally if you played these cards together as a flight, you'd get pretty much nothing. Because you have Bahamut and an evil dragon (or Tiamat and a good dragon) you are not allowed to win. But these three cards have the same color, and since they are the ONLY three to have this color, and this color is not mentioned in the rules at all, you should get something special for making a flight with these three cards. For that reason, I came up with this house rule. * Any flight containing Bahamut, Tiamat, and the Draco Lich ignores the red text on the Bahamut and Tiamat cards. Alternately, you could argue that they make a color flight, and therefore you should get the benefit of a color flight. * Each player must pay you 13 gold. Maybe it is worth while to combine these two rules.
